BBQ Entertaining AT Home

Updated: May 27, 2020

A BBQ seems like the perfect meal to kick off the summer and since we will all be staying home for Memorial Day I have some entertaining tips to help make the first(and upcoming)summer weekends special, memorable, delicious and fun while we all stay AT HOME.

Do you like BBQ? I mean like the real deal...smoky, fall of the bone ribs from Memphis?

Well... let me fill you in on a secret, Corky's in Memphis ships their delicious ribs all over the US, and right now they have a real deal. They have limited quantities for a sale price.

(they will not sell out of ribs... but only a certain amount of orders are available discounted)

They arrive in dry ice, freeze them for any weekend or plan ahead for 4th of July. Being from Memphis, I can vouch that these are fantastic!

I have been ordering them for years for my home, friends and clients.

I keep the sauce and dry rub on hand all the time and use on chicken all year round.

You can add a simple (and color coordinated:)) salad to the meal.

Many years ago while I was catering, one of the most popular summer salads we served was mixed greens with fresh raspberries. I went back to my old recipe for this for the weekend. I like a mix of greens, add a tiny bit of radicchio, some endive and sprinkle sweet pecans (it's that Southern thang) with crumbled goat cheese on top and a few fresh berries. Trader Joes has the best packaged sweet and spicy pecans!

I usually make a fresh raspberry vinaigrette but my insider tip for you is to get Briannas Blush Wine Vinaigrette in the grocery store.

Entertaining in style starts with setting the mood!

Music is a MUST! My friend and colleague, David Waterman at Total Entertainment and his go to DJ, Frankie, created a custom playlist to get us all in the mood for the weekend. Check it out, I've got it on replay!

Anyone who knows me, knows I like to bake and love a dessert assortment!:) I have been making things "bite size" as often as possible these days...isn't it better just to taste a little bit of everything!??

Well I have a suggestion for you if baking is not on your hobby list...Baked By Melissa is known for their tiny cupcakes and they ship anywhere!

Not only do they have tiny cupcakes but they also have great macaroons and TONS of flavors. They offer a huge assortment of flavors and they have vegan and gluten free options.

This is also a "sweet" idea to send to a child, friend or someone special who might need a little something to sweeten their day in quarantine as well!

Or how about making dessert interactive with your quarantine crew? A few years ago at this birthday bash below in Aspen we served Smores to each guest at their tables.

I found a small tabletop Smores kit available for quick ship from Bed Bath & Beyond.

The weather around here is still chilly at night and I think sitting by an outdoor fire pit might be a nice addition to any backyard...or you could roast Smores the old fashioned way?!

If you might need a little entertainment to keep the family busy for the weekend. This giant JENGA was such a hit at an outdoor summer party we did last year, but it does fit on any small tabletop.

Corn Hole is always fun for all ages. I like this one! SO won't look like you have "kids toys" on the patio!

As we remember those that have served us over the years on this Memorial Day, there are a million more thanks to acknowledge this year to those currently protecting us on all the front lines as we fight yet another war.

This one might be invisible, but just as devastating.

Sending lots of love and TONS of THANKS to those front line workers in the medical fields, front lines and service industries that are keeping things safe and working for us at this time.

For all of us at home hoping that you are lucky enough to get outside sometime this weekend and enjoy some good food, great tunes but most of all are well and safe!

Eat..Drink...Enjoy & HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!
